Your aquarium installation journey.
A successful installation starts with the whole system in mind. We discuss your ideas and practical requirements before agreeing the scope of the project, equipment and next steps.
1. Consultation & planning
Tell us where the aquarium will go, the look you have in mind and the fish or corals you hope to keep. Share room measurements, photographs, your location and an intended budget if you have one. We can discuss what needs assessing before a design is agreed.
2. Design & equipment selection
The aquarium, cabinet, filtration, lighting and circulation need to work together. Selection considers the system’s size, livestock goals, room conditions and access for maintenance, including space for equipment beneath or around the tank.
3. Installation & setup
The agreed setup brings the aquarium, equipment and aquatic layout together. Access, positioning and suitable water arrangements are considered before the visit, with equipment operation and the initial care routine discussed as part of the handover.
4. Establishing the system
A filled aquarium is not automatically ready for fish. Biological filtration needs to establish, with water testing guiding when livestock can be introduced gradually. The approach depends on the setup and any established material used; it is not a fixed countdown.
5. Optional ongoing maintenance
Decide how much care you want to handle yourself and where professional support would help. Discuss a routine for testing, cleaning and equipment care, alongside feeding and everyday observations between visits.
A reef is planned around the relationship between its livestock and equipment. The fish and corals you want to keep help shape tank dimensions, aquascaping, filtration, lighting and water movement.
We consider practical details such as room for a sump where appropriate, access to pumps and filtration, replacement-water arrangements and space for ongoing care. Planning these early helps make the aquarium manageable as it develops.
A tropical aquarium can be designed around plants, a community of compatible fish or a particular species. Tank size, temperature, substrate, lighting and filtration are chosen with those goals in mind, together with the amount of upkeep you want to take on.
Freshwater without the reef
Coldwater aquariums.
Coldwater systems still need thoughtful planning. We consider the fish’s adult size, swimming space, waste load and the room’s temperature when discussing aquarium size and filtration. A small tank is not automatically the easiest or most suitable option.
For your home or business
An aquarium that belongs in your space.
Residential installations
Whether you want a living-room focal point or a system you can enjoy as a hobby, the design should fit daily life. Viewing height, nearby seating, equipment noise, sunlight and access for cleaning all matter alongside the aquarium’s appearance.
Tell us whether you already own a tank or are starting from scratch. We can discuss suitability and the equipment needed before you commit to the setup.
Commercial installations
Hotels, restaurants, offices, receptions and waiting areas each have different needs. Planning considers how people move through the space, access for installation and maintenance, equipment placement and the times when work can be arranged.
Installation and optional ongoing care can be discussed together. Agree who will feed the livestock and check the system between visits, so staff have clear everyday responsibilities.
You do not need a finished specification. These details help us understand your space and identify what needs checking.
Space & aquarium size
Measure the proposed position and allow room to open the cabinet and reach equipment. Consider viewing height, direct sunlight, heat sources and the weight of the filled aquarium. Support requirements should be established before positioning a large system.
Delivery & access
Note door widths, stairs, lifts, tight turns and parking or unloading restrictions. Include access to the final position, not just the building entrance, and tell us about any limits on when work can take place.
Electrical & water practicalities
Share the location of nearby sockets, water supplies and a suitable route for water changes. Equipment needs safe, accessible power and protection from splashes. Any required electrical or building work needs to be identified and arranged before installation.
Livestock & ongoing care
Think about the fish, corals or plants you want, who will provide daily care and whether you want maintenance visits. Allow for running costs, consumables and replacement equipment as well as the initial installation.

Can you install an aquarium I have already purchased?
Send the make, dimensions, equipment list and photographs, along with where you want it installed. We can discuss whether it suits your intended livestock and space, and what may need checking or adding before installation is agreed.
Do you install saltwater and reef aquariums?
Yes. Saltwater and reef aquariums are AquaCare’s primary speciality. Planning considers filtration, lighting, circulation and livestock goals together, with attention to access and ongoing care.
Do you also install tropical and coldwater aquariums?
Yes. We also provide tropical and coldwater aquarium installations. The design and equipment are tailored to the fish, plants where relevant, available space and care routine.
How long does installation take, and when can fish be added?
The physical setup depends on the size and complexity of the project. Establishing the biological filtration is a separate stage. Water testing and the system’s condition guide when fish can be added gradually; a newly filled tank should not be assumed ready for livestock.
Can you install an aquarium in commercial premises?
Yes. Enquiries are welcome for hotels, restaurants, offices, receptions and waiting areas. Share access restrictions, your preferred work arrangements and who will handle daily care, so installation and any ongoing maintenance can be planned together.
Do you provide maintenance after installation?
Optional ongoing care can be discussed as part of the project. Visit frequency and scope depend on the aquarium and the tasks you will handle between visits. Read about aquarium maintenance in Leicester and Leicestershire for more detail.
